BASIC ENGLISH GRAMMAR FOR BEGINNERS (PARTS OF SPEECH)

        LESSON PLAN:

  1. OBJECTIVE OF THE LESSON:

  • Write a sentence with combination parts of speech

  • Develop ability to knowing parts of speech as well.

  • Develop confidence and responsibility in making sentence and paragraph.



  1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEACHING THE LESSON:

  1. Students will be asked by the teacher to re-explain about the materials.

  2. Open the blog that was made by teacher and do the exercise


  1. STAGES AND TIMINGS:

  1. Stages 1 (5 minutes) 🡪 preparing to pray together

  2. Stages 2 (10 minutes) 🡪 teacher will review previous material

  3. Stages 3 (20 minutes) 🡪 teacher begin to explain new material (in this case is about parts of speech) and giving example for the students.

  4. Stages 4 (15 minutes) 🡪 teacher give assignment about the materials to the students to make sure how much they could understand.

  5. Stages 5 (10 minutes) 🡪 teacher giving conclusion about the material and homework to the students.




As an English learner, especially for beginners, we must know about part of speech. Then, what is part of speech? Part of speech is the word arrangement of the word to make a person in order to the sentence can be understood. There are nine parts of speech that should we know these include nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, articles/determiners, and interjection. Here we will learn one by one. 

    1. NOUNS 
           Nouns are divided into common nouns and proper nouns. 
             I. Common nouns are words for people, animals, places, or things. 
                        • Words for people such actor, aunt, baby, clown, astronaut, etc. 
                        • Words for animals such eagle, zebra, bird, crocodile, etc. 
                        • Words for places such beach, mountain, park, hotel, supermarket, etc. 
                        • Words for things such bag, egg, bed, radio, fan, etc. 
            II. Proper nouns are names for particular people, places or things. They always begin with a                         capital letter. 
                        Santa Claus
                        • Patrick 
                        • American. 
                        • Sydney 
                        • Monday, etc 

    2. PRONOUNS 
            A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a common noun or a proper noun. There are different         kinds of pronouns. 
        • The words I, you, he, she, it, we and they are called personal pronouns. They take the place of               nouns and are used as the subject of the verb in a sentence. 
        • The words me, you, him, her, it, us and them are also personal pronouns. They also take the place            of nouns. These pronouns are used as the object of the verb in a sentence. 

    3. VERBS 
            Verbs are action words. They tell you what people, animals or things are doing. 
                • Talk 
                • Eat 
                • Run 
                • Swim 
                • Read, etc. 

    4. ADJECTIVES 
            Adjective is a describing word. It tells you more about a noun. An adjective usually appears before the noun it describes. Sometimes, though, the adjective appears after the noun, later in the sentence. 
                • Busy 
                • Dark 
                • White 
                • Smart 
                • Away, etc. 

    5. ADVERBS 
            Adverb is a word that describes a verb. It tells you about an action, or the way something is                    done. There are some kinds of adverbs such: 
                    1) Adverbs of manner, adverbs describe the way something is done and usually ending by –                        ly. 
                             She walks slowly. 
                             My father works carefully
                    2) Adverbs of time, adverbs describe when something happens. 
                             I didn’t go to school yesterday. 
                             My sister will go to market this afternoon. 
                    3) Adverbs of place, adverbs tell you where something happens 
                             They are going abroad to study. 
                             My mother buys fruits in market. 

    6. PREPOSITIONS 
                A preposition is a word that connects one thing with another, showing how they are related. 
                        • In 
                        • On 
                        • At 
                        • Over 
                        • Into, etc. 

    7. CONJUCTIONS 
                A conjunction is a linking word such as and, or, but. Conjunctions are used to connect words                 or sentences. 
                        • I want to eat chicken and meatball. 
                        • You want to drink orange juice or avocado juice? 
                        • I have a pencil but my friend ask me to lend her. 
    8. ARTICLES/DETERMINERS 
            The words a, an and the belong to this group of words called determiners. 
                        • I am eating an apple 
                        • I have a pencil 
                        • This is a cat the name’s Momo 

    9. INTERJECTIONS 
        An interjection is a word that expresses a sudden, strong feeling such as surprise, pain, or pleasure.                         • Cheers! 
                        • Ssh! 
                        • Hey! 
                        • Wow! , etc
